5/31 AM fished S of Algoma in 60 to 140 FOW 0 for 0 Evening fished N of Algoma 0-0 . Marked fish and bait, but no takers. Lots of Alwives in the harbor. Water temps still in the 30's on the probe. Hoping the water will warm and the salmon and steelies will turn on in the next few days.

The other guys are right. Time to take a deep breath, an decide that it's time to lift the engine out, and replace the transom board. Much easier on a aluminum boat than a glass boat, as it's not bonded to the hull. 30 years of service is good life, and if the hull, engine and out-drive are still good,it's money well spent and if done right, should last you the rest of your life. We fish in conditions just short of the Bering Strait, so this is a smart move. Could save you a big problem should you let this go, and develop a serious transom leak in severe conditions.

We were fishing 12-30 FOW. Zig Zag pattern seemed trigger bites with the lure speed variation.

Fished with Chubby in the small boat last weekend. Ice is gone at Algoma. There were about 12 boats out on Saturday, 4 on Sunday. We got a couple brown trout. Small firetiger crankbait, and watermellon Trixie spoon worked. Planner boards and shallow dipseys. Felt really good to be back on the pond.

Fished whitefish this weekend on Green Bay. Did well by Egg Harbor. Still 3 feet of ice in the bay. Almost needed an extension on the auger to get through the ice. Saw one small boat trolling a sliver of open water off the beach at Algoma. They must have slid it across the ice because the harbor & entry is still froze. The ore boats & Coast Guard cutters are having a huge struggle to move through the thick ice. 3 of the 1000 footers have been stuck east of the Mackinac Bridge for a week, and others are stuck on Lake Superior. One of the cutters had to be towed back to Duluth with a broken rudder. There must be some serious demand for iron ore for the fleets to risk their equipment in these conditions. www.boatnerd.com/news/news14.htm Thanks Al Gore.

That big white pile is all future fish habitat and extra depth in the Ahnapee River! Outstanding stuff. Now if that darn tree would vanish.

Outstanding fish! I suppose it was on MEAT, so we can start the year off right with a meat, no meat thread. ;-)

We also went out of Algoma for a mid morning last shot. Went 3 for 3 in 200 FOW. 2 salmon and a big steelie. Both salmon on 60' riggers, flasher fly rigs, Steelie on a 100' wire dipsey with green/cracked ice Pro King. Sta-bil in and boat drained and put away. Good Season, already looking forward to spring. Happy Hunting guys & gals!

I stopped at the GB Gander a few weeks ago to pick up some Dipsy Divers and Moonshine Spoons, burn up a gift card. NO DIPSYS, only a couple spoons. What F'ing idiot is ordering for that store? So, there I am, at Fleet Farm and Algoma Hardware giving them Gander Mountain's former market share.

We need a Lake Michigan dictionary! In Kewaunee, leaving the dock at the crack of nine to noon is a "Steve O". In Algoma that same move is a "Buschwacker Pete". Old Codger, we will need an update when you get back to the keyboard. Hope you did as well as Time Out did this weekend at Algoma. He and his buddies went home with a 3 man limit. 130 to 280 FOW in and out, Magnum Moonshine spoons on dipsys and downriggers in top 100'.

Hi, There are 4 year old salmon in the Ahnapee River and Algoma Harbor. Guys & Gals are getting fish off the breakwalls and in the river on casting spoons and marshmellows on lindy rigs.
On the lake, the 3 year old salmon and steelhead are hitting on Moonshine spoons, especially Magnum RV flavors. 50 to 90 feet down on riggers, and 100 to 150 foot Dipsys. Best was 140 to 250 FOW trolling in and out. Bite continued into late morning after a lag after sunrise. We made three trips out, 5-6 fish each outing, most stuck. Mark H did manage to swat a big steelie off with the net. Tisk-tisk.
We plan to pull our docks on Oct 12th. Looks like good fishing should continue until then. Hope the weather stays nice.

Just took a quick look at the weather report for the extended weekend. Should be some fishable time in there, even out deep. Chrome flashers and aqua flies, Moonshine or ProKing spoons would be a good start. By Monday, it could be lumpy with a low moving east from Western Canada. Should be guys on Ch 11 or 72 that will be "dialed in" to the fish.

For those afflicted, there are daily meetings, all along the Lake Michigan shoreline in 120 FOW.
