Bringing the family to Algoma for our labor day mini vacation. The weather is not looking vary promising but hopefully mother nature is kind! Any brighter weather outlook from your sources? Not that it will stop me from making the trip. I looking for some input on a few good places to stop to pick up some tackle on the way? Not a lot of selection here in so.mn. Im looking for some flasher fly stuff what I have is pretty limited and any suggestions of type and color would be appreciated. I also need some coated cable for a depth rader . Is there any road construction to worry about? Im lurking on here daily getting LM salmon fishing fix so hopefully I can give a report Thursday pm.

Check Fleet Farm in Green Bay on your way through, and then there is Algoma Hardware both should have what you are looking for.

Walk by the Charter boats, you,ll see whats work'n. Oh boy Most charter boats aren't fishing enough this time of year to bank on that. Plus what's to say they leave their working baits on for all to see? I don't do that but it does happen. I buy a lot from Jerry's and the bp in town.

Just took a quick look at the weather report for the extended weekend. Should be some fishable time in there, even out deep. Chrome flashers and aqua flies, Moonshine or ProKing spoons would be a good start. By Monday, it could be lumpy with a low moving east from Western Canada. Should be guys on Ch 11 or 72 that will be "dialed in" to the fish.

If ya want to check out Fleet Farm, when ya come into Green Bay on 29 and get to your turn off Fleet is about another 2 blocks past the turn off, just watch you'll see it ahead and to the left. The B.P. in Algoma has a real good selection as mentioned in this tread. lime green flasher and green or green blue flies worked when I was over, but it's been a while. Besta Luck to ya Rossco @ MilleLacs

Got here a little later then we wanted to but that's ok cause the fog scares me a bit and then throw in darkness in an area don't know . I will wait till first lite. Guy I was talking to said the fog is only out 3 our so miles?not sure how to treat this situation #1 troll out, #2 take it easy 10-15 mph or #3 blast out.I don't think I have big enough begonias for the third choice. Any etiquette or tips for dealing with the fog I might not know of ? Stopped at Algoma hardware and all I can say is wow!

X2, it's been ridiculously thick this week and watching boats on my radar it's clear that they don't know another boat is even around until its too late. Lost gear a few times due to boats with no radar panicking and turning into my boards when my boat appears. Just be careful. 3 miles out of algoma or anywhere is farther than you think- especially if your GPS decides to cut out. A lot of the time this year when it's been foggy, you can't even see the lighthouse until you're past it

We went in a mild fog last night that turned into a dense fog and then yes it did clear at some point but we had to find 300 fow and it wasnt until 730 that you could really see. It really not a good idea for anyone without radar to go out in a thick fog and even worse if your not familiar with the lake. A old school compass is a good idea for a backup to your electronics if its foggy or not.
Earlier in the year we got stuck in some really really really bad fog and my gps went out. Thanks to a couple smartphone apps, a 1973 compass and an old chart map of lake we were able to pick a degree heading from where we though we were and head in...only missed the harbor by 100 yards.
Be prepared!

X2 here...even with radar things get scary..especially when boats that don't have it are out there..almost makes it worse seeing them on the radar blasting right at you!
