Friend of mine was quizzed by the boys in gray after weekend outing. Asked what charter he was on, when it was a fun run on a private boat. Looks like the WI DNR is trying to find unlicensed charters in the Algoma area. 2 man surveillance team in a non-DNR truck.

We were out on Saturday for the Child's Wish event. Spoon bite, 150-260 FOW troll in and out. Downriggers at 70-90. Leadcore w/ spoons on the birds. Kevorkian, Black Pro King w/purple ladderback, green & raspberry spoons were working. Could have left the dipsies and flasher/fly rigs in the box. 3 steelhead, 2 kings, largest was 18 pounds.

Some fish have moved to 50-100 FOW and are starting to get ripe. Circle Jerk is still a few weeks off. Good bite inside of 200 FOW.

Most boats had a pretty good weekend at Algoma. Private boats had mix of salmon, steelhead and a few lake trout. Charters continued to do very well. Sunday afternoon was a washout as the thunderstorms passed through. Water temps have warmed, low 60's on surface, high 40s to low 50s on the probe. We caught salmon and steelhead in 100 FOW north of town. Some weed clumps are starting to float out of Sturgeon Bay, which can cause real problems. Check your lures often for weeds. Calm weather predicted for the next week, Shanty Day's Tournament starts Thursday, runs until Sunday at 10am. Entry tickets available at Capt. K's, Algoma BP, Algoma Hardware, and Algoma Marina. Goood Luck everybody!

After turning 2 Fish Hawk probes and cannonballs into bottom structure, I have now a Dubro shock spring, proseriesfishing.com/documents/files/280108125326.pdf strung onto my cable, above the probe. It works as a shock absorber between the probe and the boom pulley. Bought it from Algoma Hardware. It gives you a fighting chance if a autostop fails, before the cable or terminator shears should your gear come all the way up to the pulley, or if someone hits the "up" button after the probe/cannonball is already at the surface. Knock on fiberglass, 2 years since we said good-bye to a probe.

Scheduled a vacation week. Waiting for the RSVP from Sara Evans & Shania Twain. 0therwise I'll be the guy at Algoma with the big fish. Hope my crew shows up. You know how it is, everyone wants to go fishing all year, but when it's crunch time, they all have weddings and graduation parties that are more important.

For those with small boats that have a Lowrance HDS, you can plug a HD3 radar dome right into your unit. The dome can mount on a planer mast or rollbar type rod holder. Works great, low power consumption, and less radiation than a cellphone. Sure beats sitting on shore, or the stress and danger of running blind in the fog. You can split screen radar and sonar or map. www.lowrance.com/en-US/Products/Radar/

6/14 Algoma. We held the annual United Special Sportmans Alliance Childswish event at Captain K's Marina. 19 families with sick or disabled kids were taken out for a beautiful morning on Lake Michigan on a mix of charter and private boats. A nice mix of kings and lake trout were caught and smiles were everywhere. Thanks to everyone who contributed so much time, talent, funds, and hard work to make this event such a success. Champ's better half Nikki did a wonderful job putting this together again!

6/11/14 Some Kings caught at Algoma. Champ went 3/5, Fishing Magician had 4, another Kinn charter had 6, and Mark on the Time Out had one king on a PM solo run. So it's starting, slowly, but starting!
