Gary, Do some searching on this board and around the net on sea-sick prevention, so your better half can enjoy this too. Dramamine, medicated patch that goes behind the ear, ginger pills, wrist bands. For your net, tie a 5' piece of light rope to the bottom of the net bag, then tie the other end around the net handle. You can then keep your bag from flowing back beyond the hoop until the fish is inside the hoop and you start to lift the net, then let the rope slide down the handle. Welcome to our passion.

I put this on my 25' Sportcraft and it works perfect. Tees into your hydraulic system, works perfect, has rate gyro, so it holds course even at lake trout/walleye speed. Everything in one package, including the pump. Simrad AP2403VRF, search Google shopping for the best deal. Same parent company as Lowrance, so it plugs right into a HDS sonar/GPS/Radar system, and if you have the radar dome, the rate gyro enables you to overlay the radar on your GPS Chart, so radar targets show up on your chart screen.

Good Luck! We will be hosting the "Up North" part of the Child's Wish Weekend at Capt. K's Marina in Algoma and looking forward to another great outing. Fishing has been fabulous, so now we just need NOAA to give us a great forecast and make it stick for a change!

Another outstanding weekend at Algoma. The very early morning bite was great on Sunday morning. 100-150 FOW was a great place to be. Downriggers with spoons, and flasher flies were non-stop from dark until the sun got higher in the sky. Private boats had 3-12 fish, and most charters had limits. Kathy Hoff was fishing with Capt Tom Biden out of Capt. K's Marina and brought in a fat 15 1/8 pound steelhead. A beauty that's going on the wall. Salmon are still running 8-16 pounds in most of the heavy coolers.

Made it out OK with my 25' I/O. as you go around the corner, stay about 20' from the steel wall. Not much for readings on the depthfinder, but did not hit anything.

Congratulations on the new boat and selling the old one. Let's get an orange paint job on that so I can continue to have a visual marker to the good fishing :-)) Where are you docking it? If it doesn't work out, get in touch with me or Chubby IV. We still have a few vacant docks for this year at Capt K's.

I did the whole thing myself, including changing from mechanical to hydraulic steering. The steering system was a challenge, the autopilot was quite easy. I would not hesitate to do it all again. Only thing that I would do different, would be to use copper tubing for the hydraulic lines. I experimented with hoses and blew a couple fittings loose at "hard over" turns during dockside tests. Make it a winter project. I switched boats mid summer and putzed with things for 3 weekends to get it all done, during prime fishing time.

Yes it will work with an "unbalanced" system. Dockside setup, the computer will "learn" how far it can turn in each direction, so that it will not strain against the stops.

I would look at the Simrad AP2403VRF Autopilot System. Works perfect with any hydraulic steering system, has a rate gyro, so it will hold course at very slow speeds. I put this on my 25' Sportcraft last summer and it holds course even quartering into 4' waves at trolling speed. Spendy, but much better than the Raymarine that I had on my last boat.
