I have a 26 foot glass boat with twin Honda 115 hp hydrolic steering outboards. It had a raymarine sport plus autopilot which took a dump and I don't think its made and you can't get it repaired or parts anymore.... can anyone recomend a new complete system that I can get and install myself? thanx JP

I think you can basically choose your weapon on that one since you already have hydraulic. I know the Cooks Catch has a Simrad that seems to work ok

I have the S1000 and not overwhelmed by its performance. When you start the day you should engage it at 3mph on the GPS once started you can then use at typical trolling speeds. However if you slow down to the 1.4mph area it will lose its track and give a message "too slow". Once I get the speed back up to trolling speed and re-engage sometimes it has lost its track and will turn severly. Knowing its quirks makes it a valuable tool in most situations. It's good upto 3' seas and really saves wear and tear on the arms.
It has a number of software features and most are of no value to us, circles, figure 8. It does have a zig zag feature but only useful on one of the 3 settings.
It's not a difficult install as evidenced that I helped my brother-in-law do it in a couple three hrs. You have to mount the brain box and tie it to your GPS and put fittings in your exisiting hydraulic line for the new pump that steers the boat. I think it is less expensive than Simrad or TR.
It generally listens much better than most of my drivers and goes where I tell it and that's appreciated. It's wonderful setting lines in the AM with friends who are newbies and really get screwed up trying to steer a straight course in the dark.

I just put in the sitex sp-110 , with the help of Champ. It seems to be working good but I have only used it a few times. It took us in from the bank last weekend and held course well.

Don't trust those campground pollacks and Champ is of dubious lineage.
Go with Simrad with remote all the way.

I don't hate you or anybody, Champ. Lighten up a bit and good luck out there. The Polish Team stays at the same campground as we do.

Any auto pilot with an electrical compas and a gyro compas will allow you to troll slow . With out the gyro compas the auto pilot will loose its direction from time to time. Raymarines S1000 does not have the gyro. They buit it to take the place of the sport pilot , a low cost item.

I put this on my 25' Sportcraft and it works perfect. Tees into your hydraulic system, works perfect, has rate gyro, so it holds course even at lake trout/walleye speed. Everything in one package, including the pump. Simrad AP2403VRF, search Google shopping for the best deal. Same parent company as Lowrance, so it plugs right into a HDS sonar/GPS/Radar system, and if you have the radar dome, the rate gyro enables you to overlay the radar on your GPS Chart, so radar targets show up on your chart screen.
