Some of the best fishing of the year is going on at Algoma. The river is full of 4 year olds, most have love on their minds, not eating. The reel story is out on the lake. 120 to 250 FOW has been HOT for 3 weeks. 2 and 3 year old salmon are going nuts on downriggers and copper rigs. Moonshine spoons, 11" pearl flasher/frog flies down 120-140 and green Hot Spot/Aqua flies work. Troll a little fast, in and out most days, and it's been limits for many.

I called the Sportcraft phone number from their website a few weeks ago and found out they were bought by Perry Boat Works, and still make a few 27 & 30' boats.

Looks a lot like the pink salmon I caught at Algoma. Mine had a much smaller hump, but was ID'ed as a Pink or Humpy. They were originally planted by accident by the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources in Thunder Bay, northern Lake Superior long ago, and have established a small self sustaining population that has migrated into Lake Huron and Lake Michigan. They only live 2 years before spawning and dieing. Congratulations on the neat and odd fish. Attachments:

How deep to go on Saturday morning? Have the fish moved in or still over 60 fathoms? ;-)

I find this especially in post spawn males that had a rough spring. No difference in taste, but some look like they have been in a fight.

Go for the dock. We have never regretted it. Same deal. We put the boat on the trailer to fish someplace other than Algoma once in the past 5 years, and that was just a day trip to fish walleyes in Green Bay.

I swear by my 8' Shakespeare Galaxy. Take your time soldering the PL-259 connector so that you have good connections and no stray strands of the braid touching the center conductor. If in doubt, find someone with a SWR meter to check your antenna and radio output. I have a radio with scan and weather alert features. The weather alert is great. When hazardous weather hits the region, the National Weather Service sets off a PL tone that switches your radio to the weather band for the tornado or severe thunderstorm watches or warnings. When a alert goes off, you normally have enough time to reel and peel, even from 10-15 miles out and make it to harbor just before the gust-front hits.

Sunday there were a few other empty trailers in the lot at Algoma. Did not talk to anyone or see any action at the cleaning station. Chubby IV has been getting a few browns and lakers in shallow on crankbaits at Algoma over the last few weeks. I'll be back this weekend and will try shallow and deep and throw the tackle box at them. We have our docks in at Capt K's and will be going full blast in a couple weeks. I did mark some fish and some bait, but all had lockjaw and cataracts.

I took a quick maiden voyage for the year on Sunday 5/8 at Algoma. Fished for a short time in 40-50 FOW with no bites. Water temp 41.7 It did my soul good to be back out on the lake.

What pattern does a guy have to run on this for new electronics under the tree?

They did it a couple years ago at Algoma with a suction dredge that pumped to big manure tankers. Basin does keep filling with silt, so it will be an ongoing problem.
