Aaron, How deep of water were you fishing? We're going to make a trip over this afternoon. Last week I was in 60'-80' and doing good but then Sat. night we didn't do so well and haven't been out since.

Brian, which night are you planning on fishing?

You're right, you gotta stay with your gameplan and run it during the peak times. You KNOW that certain baits work, at certain times, in certain places. That's not the time to experiment, run them then and there!! The slow times are the times to try new baits. But I have found that the same things that work at dawn and dusk are pretty much the same things that work at 1 or 2 AM for the most part.

I've done good fishing after dark at times. I think you need a night with good moonlight, with the full moon being best. If it's overcast or no moon and dark I haven't done real good. But on the lighter nights I think the fish tend to feed off and on all night long. There will be times that you don't do well for an hour or two, then you get a flury of bites.
What's the sense of sleeping for 1 or 2 hours when you get here? You can take a nap in the boat if the action is slow.

Good job!! After struggling Saturday night with 4 for 6 I decided to stay home and get some work done last night. I guess I should have made the trip over.

The Wisconsin state record for splake is 17lbs 14.5oz, Michigan's is 17lbs 8oz, and you need 6lbs for a Michigan master angler entry. The biggest one I've ever boated at LBDN is around 7lbs and came on a crankbait and leadcore while walleye fishing. I used to catch a few every year up there while fishing in November and they put up a pretty good fight, better than all those 10lb walleyes we catch.

Glad you made it in safely. I can assure you that there are many helpful fishermen at Algoma, but like any other port it has it's share of jacka$$es also. I'd suggest you consider a battery switch in addition to fuses or breakers when you rewire your boat. With one you can shut off all power with the flip of a switch. It probably wouldn't have prevented your problem but it could have halted it before the fires started.

Hopefully when he hits the water he'll scare all the fish south to us.

Nice splake!! I haven't caught one up there in years and I fish there quite a bit in November. Do you know if they still stock them or are they natural? We used to catch quite a few of them in the fall while walleye fishing up until about 10-15 years ago. They were always a fun surprise.

Back when they used to stock lots of splake on LBDN I heard of them being caught on harnesses. So why not salmon?

6 ounce bottom bouncers and crawler harnesses with green blades, blue and green beads, have been working well in 80' of water off Algoma.
