Another thing that's important is to take the lead out of 4 or 5 inches of the lead core line where the knot is tied. if you fiddle with the very end of the leadcore you can strip back the braid

you can use the same knot to tie your fluorocarbon leader to your leadcore

I'd use power pro backing... There's good knot advice on the internet.. just google knots.. use the one for tying different types of line together JP

I forgot to say I dry with paper towel when removed from brine... I just put 8 filets in the brine..Wed afternoon 18#, 14#...Yesterday 17# 21# ... also caught 3 smaller (eaters) salmon..70 feet of water,full lead core ff and down rigger hot lips and oversize pearl yeck....

My brinkman smoker holds 4 large salmon filets. I rigged it with a propane burner and cast iron fry pan.. it gets up to 200 degrees and stays there..I brine the filets in salt water with one half bottle soy sauce and one half package brown suger in the fridg for anywhere from 2 to 4 days.. smoke from 6 to 10 hours.. flavorwise it doesn'y matter.. it'll get a little grainy after while but still tastes good... my daughter takes a filet to each Wis home game.tail gate party...they want me to come down so they can worship me......bon apitite JP

My son just launched a boat down by Winthrop harbor and went out today and fished in 80-120 feet of water..he is a genuine green horn..he had one hit on a near surface red flasher with a mini-howey fly and his line broke. no other hits..I fish Algoma and cant advise him on what baits to buy and how deep to troll them...can you tell me the 10 best baits to use and where to get them and how deep to fish....he's very near to getting fish fever so any help would be appreciated...THANX JP

Saw a charter at the fish cleaning station tue. he had 29...half bows and half salmon including several over 15#...I wish I knew where he got em....At least we know the salmon should be targeted...I hope to be searching for them by mid week JP

Great 3 days... boat record #1 Rare for us to catch a fish in the afternoon cause we have to be in by happyhour, but we got 3 Tue afternoon.... Record # 2 Thurs. morning 10 in the boat... record # 3 Trip total--18 all bows except 1 king ...Trying to get back down Sun Oh ya all but 2 on a variety of spoons near the surface except ... 2 on ff down 60...145 favorite depth ..just N of the harbor North and south troll both produced JP
