Is 54 still closed? If so what is the best way from Wausau to Algoma?

Rather than taking a right off Hwy 54/57 and taking Hwy 54 toward Algoma in the town of Scott, continue going north on 54/57 a few miles to county hwy K. Take a right on K and take it all the way through back to Hwy 54 in Rio Creek (which is between Casco and Algoma). Take a left on Hwy 54 to get to Algoma. It adds about 7-10 minutes to the trip this way, and there are a couple small burgs to go through. But overall county hwy K is a nice road.

I took this route Friday and it was a good road all the way. The couple of small towns don't slow you up any more than the ones on 54.
