Has anyone done any shore fishing or breakwater fishing over the past week? I'm off on Friday and thinking about heading that way and giving it a whirl!
Thanks,
Paul

Are they getting any fish out there? I finished getting the boat and trailer ready last night, it even runs!!! I've caught enough walleyes for a while and I'm ready to catch some salmon.

Disclaimer: I have not been out on the lake (except fyke netting on Green Bay with DNR a couple weeks back) yet this year and have not even walked on the pier this spring but here's what I'm gathering from a handful of email and phone contacts in the past week, including two today ...
Piers: Some fish are being seen off the piers. Water crystal clear. Alewives are moving in, presumably for spring spawn, as they're also showing up in the rivers. That could be a plus to lure more predators in.
Lake: Things seem to be changing fast. Though there are still fish deep, one friend at Algoma caught two large salmon this morning on six colors of leadcore and a spoon just a few miles off shore. Another last night at Kewaunee had four down deep about five miles out, two on flies and two on spoons.
I've received photos of four and seven fish catches from last night and Sunday, respectively. No charters to my knowledge are running here yet, though perhaps this weekend. A half-dozen or more Algoma and Kewaunee charter boats are fishing cohos (and mixed bags, even perch earlier this spring) off Winthrop Harbor. If the reports keep improving, they may be back up north sooner than later.

Thanks for the info. Kevin. I've got a trip planned for Sat. afternoon but with this nice weather I might have to get over there yet this week some evening. Hopefully I'll have a good first-hand report to post.

Thanks guys, I think I'll be in Algoma Saturday for a sun sunrise surpise off of the south breakwater. I will let you know of the fun I have!

Steve, that one was for you!
Update: Talked to Jimmy of Fishing Magician charters and he said they had one boat with eight fish over the weekend. Said he did a fun run (not a charter) one night for an hour and caught two, so the potential is there. Once we get more boats out, there will be more searching and sharing of info and that should help dial it in more.
