Well after another disappointing morning turkey hunting I decided to throw in the towel and hang it up for the year… What to do, what to do… Called my brother-in-law and said lets splash in the boat… A few hours later we had the riggers setup and on our way to Port Washington.
As stated in a post earlier by Clam we put the boat in the water and as I was parking the trailer he came up from the Clam II. We discussed many times hooking up for a trip aboard his previous Clam I (now named Reel Melodi) so the invitation was made and he graciously accepted to join us. Low and behold he was up for a real treat when we basically turn the keys over to him. Just like riding a bicycle it didn’t take long and he was in total control…
Ok, now to the fishing… What was going to be a quick shake down trip turned into a 9 line spread very quickly. We started of in 150fow marking a few fish here or there but it wasn’t until we slipped into 120fow we picked up our first fish. Being a nice coho on a 5 color board with a orange 00 dodger and peanut fly… Shortly after resetting it fired again in 107fow. Small coho but none the less a meal. Next to fire was a 2 color swr down 75ft in 97fow with the new Moonshine Wild Perch spoon. This being a rather small King that was shaken off at the back of the boat. Last but not least was a nice Rainbow that Clam brought in (yes Jackpot a Rainbow…) I believe I heard him mumble something about Jackpot would never let me reel in a rainbow… This came on a mono planner board with a Orange 00 and peanut fly… So in a quick 2 ½ hour trip we ended up 4-4 with 2 Cohos, 1 King, and 1 Bow…
It was great to be back on the water again and great to have Clam’s company aboard his former boat. We look forward to more trips in the future with him and hopefully a safe and successful season not only for us but for everyone else as well…
