We left the harbor mouth around 510 anticipating fishing 80-160 based on limited information from others. We had enough daylight that we could see the water was filthy and just kept sliding east south east looking for it to clean up. When I got to 250 feet of water I said I don’t think we need to go any farther let’s set up and fish to clean water. Finally happened at around 270 feet where we saw a color line and found some nice green water.
Marking baitfish and had three good bites in the first 45 minutes so we ended up staying there the remainder of our morning. First 125 copper with magnum Road Kill taking a nice rainbow, the first of two it would capture today. Next an old raider spoon Flamethrower I covered with UV tape on the three color. Then a nice 14 pound king down 45 feet and a half glow half green fly with a white blinking flasher that would be hit three more times taking a Laker and are only Coho. Then a nice 14 pound king down 45 feet and a half glow half green fly with a white blinking flasher that would be hit three more times taking a Laker and are only Coho. A magnum old extended glow fuzzy bear spoon all orange I covered with UV tape on a four-color took two and 100 copper took one.
Surface temperature range from 52.5 to 56.5 in the area where we caught fish. It was 42 to 43 1/2 down 25 to 40. Best troll direction for us was north and south over the course of about a mile. We stayed on the clean side of the color line but remained close to it most of the day. The only Dipsy bite was 70 feet out on a big Al fish flash in a Shamrock Brad’s cut plug that escaped. The other Dipsy and two downrigger‘s with varying baits had no bites. Kept the Depth Raider DRX- 10 over 2.9 all day and up to 3.3.
Ended up with one king, one lake trout, one Coho and 8 rainbows missing one bite and had another drive-by. Remarkably lucky to have that kind of landed ratio with the numbers of fish that just kept jumping today. The rainbows were very stocky with two around 10 and one at 11.5. I have never had to go that far off shore to get to fishable water.
