Another amazing day on the big pond! The fish hadn’t moved much from Friday so we were on them early. Best depths 75-90 just off UWM tower. The bait fish seemed to be there even in a greater amount. I had a fisheries biologist with me and when cleaning fish found not only alewife but shad, shiners and sculpin. That should hold the fish there for a while. I was fun to see the fishing moving in and out of our spread on the Panoptics and the large amount of bait plastered to the bottom.
I forgot my Tuna baits so this was a spoon and f/f bite. The wire dipsys set at two with 70 LOC and a Raider magnum blue Alewife and 80 LOC white glow Bechhold with blinking light and frog fly definitely where the hot tickets early. The riggers were set at 30 with a green mag Raider that took a couple, center rigor at 40 feet with magnum UV Flounder pounder had at least four. Deep rigger with Pro-Troll white blinker and half green half glow fly took a couple. Later we changed that to a Pro-Troll green blinker with super frog also contributing.
Board lines were more active than the last two outings. The 16 # came on 125 copper with magnum Slimeball spoon plus 2 other fish. The 200 copper took our last fish with a Raider Purple alewife. Action slowed a lot for us at 9 AM sitting on 14. Craig loves J plugs so put a green/silver Silver Horde on a five color. Pretty surprised to capture a nice brown on that one. We did have one triple and 2 doubles capturing all.
Water temperature at 45° and not any change down to 35 feet. Slowed the troll today to 2.7 to 3.1 still spending most of our time around 3.0 miles an hour. I guess I shouldn’t be surprised to take a fish on a turn on the outside board going 3.1mph. I wonder how fast that lure was moving? Ended with 20 fish, 19 kings and seven were three-year-olds up to 16 pounds and one brown. Had to release another bite clearing lines and probably had 4 to 5 drive-bys so a great hook up rate. Today's catch was approximately 60/40 unclipped vs clipped.
The long range forecast for November is below normal temperatures. In years gone by we have had limits of silver fish in late Nov. I should winterized but I am going to wait for a few more days in the off chance I can get one more chance at this unbelievable bite.
