Started in 90 feet of water 0445 1.5 north by checking temps finding 55 down 40 ft and 50 down 60ft but no marks. Picked up and ran to 120 feet of water where I marked a little bit of bait so I decided to set up there. Bait disappeared so headed back west marking almost nothing all the way in again to 90 feet of water. Dramatic absence of anything in the dark!! Decided to troll east northeast until we hit fish.
Once I got to 280 feet of water which was 15 miles east of the north gap I decided to turn back suffering no bites and marking no bait and just an occasional hook 45-65 down. Finally 270 took our only fish of the day on a 5 color, nice little rainbow on Magnum Atomic melon kept the skunk out of the box. Had one more drive-by 240 ft seven color mag Roadkill. Had a 12 rod spread from five color , Seven color, 200 copper, 100 copper, 150 copper and 175 copper, 2 wire dypsies out verying depths from 80 to 140, rigors 35 down to 80 up-and-down and one shallow diver out 60 to 80. A mix of flasher fly, Brad‘s cut plugs and spoons and rotated until we gave up.
It was a great day to fish, water conditions seemed favorable but it was like a desert out there. I heard someone who stuck it out in 90 to 110 did catch four fish over the course of the morning. Lakers are abundant for charters who choose to dig the bottom but the silver guys are pretty hard to come by right now. Pretty surprised because the water cooled down nicely but I don’t know where the fish went. Similar reports from Racine and Port Washington. One Port Washington charter 21 rods six hours, three bites.
Bummed so I canceled for tomorrow. Figured I would get them dialed in today and knock them dead tomorrow. Bluegills are on the agenda.
