I am curious if anyone has a good solution for storing leaders used with flies. I have tried swim noodles but at least one of the hooks from the treble remains exposed. I have storage boxes that I coil each leader into its own compartment - this works until I have to uncoil a 24 inch birds nest. The only thing that remotely works for me is placing each leader into a separate bag then put into a storage box. Any ideas?

I store my extras in the tubes which go in the Plano fly storage boxes. I think those boxes hold close to 50 rigged flies. I can get 4 unrigged flies (bodies only) in a tube. I keep around 40 leader rigs (double singles and tournament ties) in another Plano box so I can rig another fly at any leader length in about a minute. I just thread the fly on, measure the leader, tie off and fish it.
On my boat, I have some swim noodle pieces in the cabin attached to a wall and I just hang the ones I'm using for quick and easy access. The hooks go in the noodle and the fly and leader hang down. I probably have 40-50 flies hanging there for instant access.
Fly storage has always been something heavily discussed. Everyone looks for a better mousetrap in this area.

You might want to check this out ... www.michigansportsman.com/Tips_n_Trix/2008/Storage_Cases.htmI've used these cases for meat rigs and they work good BUT .. don't leave them in the sun closed or all your glow and xkiller material curls up to a unusable mess .. just trust me on that .. DISCLAIMER ... should be one but it's late ;D

Go to a hardware store and buy some 3/4" clear plastic tubing. You can cut it to the lengths you want. I cut in 2 slits on top and bottom and insert the fly inside and wind the leader around lengthwise and the slits hold it in place from tangling.

These fly boxes help a lot........When done using them, I remove the flies from most flashers and then put the flashers into a file for storage, but I do leave some go-to flies hanging from hooks inside the salon for immediate use when needed..... I will sometimes leave a fly attached to a certain spin doctor or flasher if they catch fish and I dont want them separated....

I do the clear pvc thing from the hardware store. Works pretty decent although I'm sure there's better ways. My peanut flies are pretied and in a plano box with individual compartments for each fly. I keep the leader from exploding into a coil by taking a section of a twist tie about 1" long and using wrap it around the would up line. This works nicely when they day is over and it's time to put the tackle away.

Clear plastic 1" tye tubing for me. was cheap.. i cut it to length and it fits in my tackle box well.. put the fly in and wrap the leader around the notches in the ends.. love the storage system Clam uses but I did save some money for more flies and spoons edit...: fishinglinder is right.. 3/4 not 1"
