Coming up with the girlfriend's family to the dunes for a weekend camping trip. I'm an experienced fishermen, just not on the great lakes. Thought I'd bring up the sea kayak and fish/provide a get-away from the future in-laws. Any fishing tactics/tips for the inshore angler?

You can read the perch reports from this forum / geographic area and learn what the Chicago Kayackers use ( they have a post on chitown angler) - artificials, jigs / Gulp minnows, rapalas, softshell crayfish, minnows, Kastmasters, etc.

Which weekend and are you staying in the Dunes State Park? You have many options with the kayak, depending on the weather. You can head over to Portage and launch from the new park and fish the ditch and just outside on the main lake for all kinds of fish including summer run steelhead that will start soon. You can also fish for steelhead in Michigan city. I have not launched the kayak there yet, but I would say if you're going to focus on steelhead, it's probably easiest to pay to get into Washington Park. I don't know what they say about kayaks, but I would say tell them you're going to take it out to the beach. You could launch from the beach or the launch after that and you will see plenty of people fishing the pier this time of year for steelies. You could fish either side fo the pier with the kayak, just be courteous and consider the pier fisherman. You can also work up the creek some, where you'll see others fishing the DNR spot too.
