Such a nice day gave it a go this p.m. Fished first few hours in 170 ft. or less with no takers. Called Nemo and he said to run out to at 250 or more. Pulled lines and set up in 290 going east. 51 ft rigger with happy meal took a nice rainbow right away. Nothing for a while, Nemo called to see how it was going and while talking 51 ft rigger went, then 37 ft. rigger, then140 ft dipsy. All poles bouncing. Landed 2 nice 3 yr olds. For the next hour or less, put poles in and within a min. or two they would take off . Had 2 more doubles at least.Kept losing fish, but sure was wild. Took 5th fish at dark.Crazy, crazy time. Two riggers with spoons did most, put dipsy with green flasher/blue green fly was going at the end. 300 ft was packed with fish. Was going to be last trip for year, WILL HAVE TO RECONSIDER THAT!!!

Also, Naz was right on the three year olds being nice size and just full of fight. If you did'dt know they are in the rivers, you'd think you had a 4 year old on.

The bite was still hot, but deeper, this weekend, with fish found 6 to 9 miles off shore and 30 to 90 feet down. Stopped down to check things last night dark and was first greeted by piles of "big uglies" being cleaned from the river. The photo doesn't do this one justice ... it was a tank! Meat didn't look too bad, though definitely not nearly as colorful as the fresh ones being cleaned. Attachments:

Next up was Nemo and Nemo Jr., Skyler was pumped and I can't wait to try one of his home-painted baits. Love it when kids take an active role in the "gettin' ready" part of it and Nemo is blessed with a good one there. Attachments:

Finally, in comes The Griff w/Buck and some dandies. Didn't ask why he didn't bring in a limit for Buck, too, since he was along and is licensed ... ;D Off to Strawberry Creek in an hour for first spawning ... if anyone on here comes up, be sure to say hi. I'll be in chest waders, rain gear (those big boys and girls are slimy this time of year!) and a hard hat with a "club" in hand. Attachments:

Good to see some fish being caught. I was worried that the big blow would scatter them. We're heading over tomorrow afternoon for (hopefully not) the last trip this year. Was it mostly a spoon bite for Aron too? Any hot colors or depths?

Fishing very good again this morning, some guys getting fish in 140-240 but most working 250-400. Not a lot of boats out but all getting bit from what I heard and saw. One charter had six on at once, according to a text I got after leaving the lake. We had four salmon and four steelhead (two leaped off, one at the boat) in just under two hours on my boat, all baits hit from roughly 35-95 down. Didn't go out as far as we would have liked as one guy had to be at work at 9 in Sturgeon Bay. Attachments:

Strawberry Creek was wild, we did +-850 fish and must have left as many in the pond. Several in the 26-27 lb. range and many 20s, including a fair number of 21-24s. Best condition I've seen up there in years. Several bright cohos showed up. Did hear some preliminary talk that the recent acoustic survey wasn't looking good for this year's year alewife class, though, and if the salmon hammered last year's hatch, well, let's not go there. It would be some fast fishing, but that isn't necessarily a good thing if you remember '04-'07 range with the record catches and skinny fish. Hopefully the fall trawls will "find them" and what we have out there winters well and has a good hatch in '12. Things are precarious out there. We could use several big year classes in a row. Those calling for "stock more salmon" I hope back off a bit and get real. Best early run in the rivers I've seen in years at Algoma and Kewaunee, too. We sure missed a lot of big fish this season! Strawberry will be taking eggs again Thursday and at least twice next week. Kewaunee pumps going on tomorrow but no chin take there; only cohos and browns as Strawberry providing more than enough eggs. Griff, winds supposed to hum for a few days. Sunday looking a lot better than Thurs-Fri-Sat right now, but maybe it'll change. www.crh.noaa.gov/product.php?site=GRB&product=GLF&issuedby=LMAttachments:
