Is there anywhere to fish around the shore in Portage. We are bringing some kids up this weekend and taking a charter out of Portage but I was thinking about doing some additional fishing if we could find anything. I don't know anything about perch but it appears they are not up near the shore right now. Is that correct?

That is correct. You might be able to pick up a catfish, carp or maybe a small mouth around the rocks though.

Yes, the boardwalk is in Portage. Go past Portage Marina to the stop light and make a left like your going to ogdon dunes but instead go over the bridge to go into Midwest steel and make a left at the stop sign and follow the signs. They do not have it marked very well up to that point.
Have to ask someone else about bait, sorry.

I heard they are catching catfish and carp during the day and walleye at night. The walleye I need to see for myself. If you walk down the rock pier you might get into some perch and brooks.

When the perch are in when ever that is,you can fish for them off of the rocks at the end of the board walk.Use a slip bobber set at 6 to 8 foot ,number 6 hook snelled and perch minnows hooked threw the eye balls so they do not come off when casting out ,they will stay alive even when hooked that way. You can also tight line for them and watch for the tell tale rod tip wiggle.Fish the West side S/W direction.Have fun and good luck
