I am very strongly considering putting the Lund on the market and picking up a Islander. I was hoping you guys could give me some feedback if you know someone who has one and what they think of it, ever fished on one, etc.

Quite possibly the best all around aluminum boat ever built. Light, easy to trailer, affordable, and semi cheap to run. Hard to find cause people don't sell them...........

I used to work for Cedar Lake Sales in West Bend and the Islander was one of the best "larger" boats on the market. It is easy to set up, work on, and use. IT handles well in the water, calm or rough. It well suit your needs well on LM!!

If I wanted to fish five guys on the boat can we do that comfortably? No, but 3 isn't bad at all.

LBL, your question is really one based on the capacity of the boat, based on the boats capacity plate. A snipet from the WI Boating Regs:
Capacity Plates: The majority of boats manufactured or offered for sale in this state shall have affixed thereto a capacity plate. Never exceed the maximum limits of your boat. To do so is to endanger your life and that of you passengers. It is also accepted evidence that you are operating your boat unlawfully.

I run a '68 Holiday - 19ft I think, so it is a bit smaller and probably older than what you’re looking for. My boat has the seats that face forward and aft and fold out for a bed. I can fish 4 guys, but more than 3 standing in the back would be too crowded (2 standing have plenty of room). In calm water I could "crowd" 5 into the boat - mine is rated for 6 people, but I don't know the weight capacity off hand. The Holiday doesn't have the cabin like I think the Islander has.
I like the closed bow and high gunnels for Lake Michigan. The boat is light and trailers well. I pull with a Ford Explorer and you barely notice the boat. But the trade off for theEtaller gunnels and lightweight is it is affected by the wind more especially in turns. It will take reasonable waves, however I don't think you can run as fast in them with out pounding as you could with a heavier boat.

Get ahold of Fat Cat on here, there was a Guy at Captain K's that ran an 80-something Islander since it was new and has since passed (A good family friend of mine as well). I think his Daughter or something was looking to sell his boat, not sure if she has. I believe it was serviced almost exclusively at Accurate Marine and it was babied to say the least. Has a hard top with full electronics- furuno graph, jrc radar, lowrance gps and raymarine autopilot. 4 cannon electrics, full rods/reels, rocket launcher, outriggers all the stuff. One of the nicest boats to fish off of- kinda like a pop can in big waves but never felt unsafe.

I know what coast guard rating is, the rating for the Lund is 6, but unless there really skinny midgets who don't enjoy personal space then it won't be comfortable. My question was regading being comfortable.

I have a 23' Sylvan Offshore, which is a very similar boat. Deep and wide, just what you need out there.
Plenty of room. I've had 5 adults several times and although we couldn't have a barn dance, we were comfortable.
Mine has a 5.7 V-8, so speed and power are not a problem. 3-4 adults and she jumps right on plane. Tops off at 40, cruises about 30 MPH.
You may bob more in rougher seas. I baby it a little, so in the rougher stuff I take my time for a more comfortable ride. Been out in honest 5' rollers and fished all afternoon with no problems. The trade off is that it's easier to trailer. Taking mine up to Little Bay de Noc again this fall. Walleye trolling in style, with complete bimini enclosure and a warm crock pot full of chili in the cuddy!

i've had my islander for 3 yrs now and wouldnt trade it for the world!! yes you can fish as many as 6 people on it,,just take turns as to who is "napping" in the cabin,,but like the posts say,,,good luck finding one around the great lakes area..i went all the way to kansas to get mine....another option is a crestliner sabre..another great boat with all the same good points as the islander..there was an islander for sale most of the summer in kewaunee for $6500 advertised at the bp on hwy 29 on the west side of town

I also run a Sylvan Offshore, a 22' Oouboard version... fished salmon with 4 people and solo. Much more comfortable with 3 than 4 but 5 is doable.. Offshore doesnt have the quality of the Islander.. Islander is what i was looking for when this came up at the right price. I like my O/B.. gives more room in the stern and with the high sides.. as stated earlier... very secure feeling even in rougher seas. I have a 115 to power it.. does 34 WOT but cruises at 25 before you even know it.
Watch for transom issues on anything, any manufacturer, in this style boat... although its a good do-it-yourself project.. be sure you know what your getting. And I/O's are going to be more difficult then O/B for the transom replacement.
Again.. my Offshore is no Islander.. been in them and looked at them and reseaerched them.. nothing but good is all I have ever heard. It is an Aluminum boat.. not fiberglass.. and you will notice it.. but the Islander ride is much better then the Offshore and I have seen them from 19 to 22 ft models.
One more thing.. dirtyunderpants..... Another Offshore in LBDN this fall??? You'll have to let me know when your coming and I'll make time to meet up with you .. would love to see your Offshore!
