I had the privilege of hosting Jason and his nine-year-old daughter Victoria on The Big Pond for a late afternoon/early evening trip.....
The lake was near glass as we headed out of the gap at around 3:30 p.m. and ran out to 85 FOW and set up on a northeast troll doing about 2.6 SOG ------ We ran a nine line spread of four riggers, one wire dipsy, and four board lines (2 mono, a 7 color and a 5 color).....
We worked 125 to 155 for most of the four hours we trolled, and true to form the back riggers very deep took all but one fish.....
We ended up going 8 for 12 with four kings (14.2, 11.1, 9.5 and 8.11 pounders) and four coho (the biggest at just over 6 pounds).......
I found a new stud in the arsenal today, as I ran an 8 inch Opti Inticer with white cracked glow one side/ blue mountain dew on the other coupled with the new Big Weenie Little Boy Blue Fly......we caught four of the fish on this setup alone on a mono back rigger down 122-128 feet.....
Here was the breakdown of the hits/catches:
(4 for 4) 8 inch Opti Inticer (white cracked/blue mountain dew with Big Weenie LBB fly)
(3-4) Magnum Moonshine Hot Lips spoon on a two color SWR down 110 feet
(0-1) Orange OO dodger/Rainbow Richard Champagne fly on mono board line (large jumping rainbow)
(0-1) Magnum Pro King Black and Gold spoon w/glow ladderback on side rigger down 68 feet
(1-2) Goldstar Pink Alewife spoon on side rigger down 42 feet
Victoria was a real trooper and reeled in all but two fish......only one board hit during the entire trip......it was nice to put a few decent kings in the box!
I will be down in Racine tomorrow afternoon to fish on Greg (Pike Preacher's) fish slaying vessel......looking forward to this trip!
As expected, the bigger kings are packed on the bottom and the surface hits are there but fairly sparse....that will change come this weekend.....
