Guys, at the risk of embarrassing myself, I could use some local knowledge on fishing the pier at MC over the holiday weekend.
First, before you say it, I figured it would be crowded, but it's when I can get off work.
Second, in Cincinnati, I got things covered fairly well. All the warmer water critters are no problem, but your Kings really interest me. I just don't want to waste 5 years learning that the only thing I was doing right was buying a trout stamp. OK, to be honest, I'm going with the wife for the weekend and if she out fishes me again I'm going postal!
If you got time, I could use the advise.....
Will the kings be around the pier at this time?
Strictly night with glow spoons, or does it matter with these spawning monsters if we fish in the day? Best time?
I know how to catch alewives but will they be close enough to shore then, and are people using them at this time?
I understand the Kings hit out of meanness, not hunger. So does that mean bigger baits / spoons work better?
Is there a better than others brand of lure that most use? type? color?
Is there anything else to catch off the pier? Perch close enough?
I have a flash for the glow spoons, the equipment and the drive, just hoping to get some experienced insight.
Last thing, on the Ohio river I use a submersible four foot green florescent light to attract bait, and the strippers come running! But these fish (Kings) are lining up to spawn and not really eating, so I don't know if it would be worth the lugging effort of the battery to try it. Anyone ever use one of these off the pier?
I love reading your posts about a fishery that I have only experienced once before. Learning something new and the feeling that I am sort of a rookie all over again is pretty cool when the thought of a line screaming salmon is a potential. Thanks in advance for any advice, and as always, smiles and tight lines.
