I had one of my dipsy rods break and now am looking for new ones. I have 2 eagle claw rods that are about 3 years old now. The rod broke as I was setting a dipsy out. Now I'm afraid to even use the other one I have. CHEAP Chinese Eagle Claw. What is opinion of a good dipsy rod. I was looking at Ugly Stick.

Ugly Stik dipsy rods are like pool cues in my opinion........they are way too thick and too long.......What length of rod are you comfortable fishing with?
Believe it or not, I used Diawa Firewolf 9 foot 6 inch downrigger rods as dipsy rods for the first four years I fished LM and they were outstanding......
The only reason I sold them to Bill Driscoll from the boat The Office was that I went to a shorter Pinnacle Powertip 8 footer or I would probably be still be using them today.......they dont break and have a really good feel to them......
The best part is the price ---- $18 a piece, available pretty much everywhere.......around here you can pick them up at Midwest Shooter Supply in Lomira, and come to think of it you can get them at Fleet and Farm too.

I have two 10' Okuma Blue Diamonds, I really like them. Easy on the pocket book too. Think I paid about $45 each at Jerry's in Algoma.

You can get away with running most any trolling rod for dipsies. I used to run a 8'6" Cannon downrigger rod for dipsies, but now I'm running a 9'6" Daiwa Heartlands for the inside and a 10" Rapala dipsy rod for the outside. The Daiwa's are nice rods for the money, about $25.
I never liked running the shorter rods on dipsies, I'm always looking to spread out rod tips and lines just a little bit.

I like to run 9-10 ft. rods on my dipsys. I have a pair of Pinnacle Power Pro that I think are good rods, but I can't find them anymore. I definitely won't buy anymore Eagle Claws even though they are supposed to be for dipsys.
The broken rod is the least of my troubles now. In the pouring rain this morning got into the harbor and had trouble with the power winch, seems it got off the spool and wound under the clutch. Couldn't pull out the cable. We decided to try to float the boat on the trailer and with the help of 4 GREAT other fisherman, getting soaking wet in the pouring rain, they helped get the boat pushed on . Don't know if you guys read this board but thanks again.
Kewaunee has very friendly & helpful people.
