The weatherman was correct for a change finding calm seas and fog. Set up in 50 feet of water a bit north of the green can and took a sse heading. Lots of bait but very few hooks. Surface temperature 63 and down 25' 48°. It took a while for our first bite, a typical post full moon day.
The only sets getting hit were Coho Riggs so just kept adding more. However only the matched two colors and two 3 set Dipsy between 30 and 35 LOC took Coho. When I was going to change and put one on a downrigger I got hit while it was in my hand but didn't stay hooked up. So added a surface line then but never got bit. Flies were double aqua or four colors (blk/copper/aqua/purple) both homemade.
Best fishing was in 65 feet of water south of the Green can 1-2miles. Six dandy coho from 5 1/2 to 8 1/2 pounds. Pulled the drag out like they were big rainbows or a king. A small rainbow came on a six color Flounder Pounder and the Laker on a orange and silver spoon 4 color. Very small king came on Coho rig.
Only missed one hook up and had 4 drive-bys. By no means fast and furious but beat the heck out of my last outing. Other boats I spoke with had 7, 10, five, 2, and 11 fish and only 5 kings between us all.
Late morning when a breeze finally arrived and put a ripple on the water we saw a temperature break line. Traveling through it took about 50 feet for temperature to drop 4.5°. Saw lots of bait and no hooks and trolled both sides of that line for a mile and no bites. Kind of disappointing so called it a day . SAR next week and good luck to all. Looks like we will be blessed for some decent weather.
