Surprised to find 2 to 3 footers when leaving the Racine Harbor. Headed south of town so I could go across them and set lines 120 feet of water. First bite at 140 feet of water three set Dipsy out 35 on a fly inspired by a friend to imitate shrimp color. It was a red and pearl 2 inch fly tied like a streamer. He suggested the "MOAM fly" mother of all Myces. That was the last bite for that set up until the very last fish.
We fished as far out as 168 and worked about a 2 mile north and south stretch. We would get a double and then no bites for 45 minutes or so. Surface temperature was 40 and rigger down 60 about the same. Downrigger's were again the most productive but decent action on 150 and 175 copper. Only two bites on mono boards running Thin Fish.
Marked some baitfish very deep and a few hooks towards the bottom. I just don't seem to pick up the Coho on my Lowrance HDS gen2 but clear line for my 60 foot rigger on 83Hz. Will have to play with the settings because the fish were there.
Ended up with all coho going 17 for 19 and a couple of drive-bys. I neglected to take any pictures in part because the rolling seas left one of my crew with an unsightly color that I don't think would be considered photogenic. Tough guy who stuck it out till we actually exceeded our limit catching fish while we were clearing lines. Unlike last trip shrimp were only in 2 fish but many had alewife up to 6 inches and saw 3 year classes. I hope that is a good sign.
