Headed for Wind Point where we caught browns last week. Recent wind must have been more northerly because it was terribly dirty water. In 25 feet of water lots of marks and baitfish but I think you would have to hit them on the head to get a bite it was so dirty. Slid out to 40 feet of water and much cleaner but very few marks but did pull one brown and one shaker Coho released.
Ran out east and set up in 95 feet of water taking a South East course. This time last year I remember the fish we were all over the water column so tried to cover surface to 70 down. First bite mono board orange and chartreuse Thin Fish in 135 fow. Shortly thereafter 70 foot rigger white dodger and Purple Frog Brad's fired and 10 minutes later it went again. I dropped it to 80 feet and changed the 50 foot rigger to the same set up and dropped it to 70 feet. Then the 80 foot rigger fired so I dropped it to 90 and changed the 40 foot Rigger the same set up so running at 70, 80 and 90 feet. You might ask why I kept dropping deeper and that is because last year I got them as deep as 120 feet down.
Much to my surprise very few bites on the intermediate set ups. So eventually moved to deeper set ups and 150 foot copper that fired twice and only three bites on dipsies for the day. Water temperature in 25 fow was 46 and in 135 feet surface was 41.5 and down 70 it was 39.6. I tried to keep the Depth Raider DRX 10 speed 2.2 to 2.4 finding a 0.4 mile per hour current coming from the north. The only real marks were on the bottom and I wasn't about to chase them. Stayed between 135 and 150 feet. We got just enough bites that I didn't want to leave that area but it was by no means fast and furious. It was one of those rare flat days so we fished until 130 so bytes per hour wasn't that great but getting bit was.
Ended up 14 for 19 with 12 coho, one brown and one shaker released. There were no Alewife in the coho but stuffed with freshwater shrimp. That accounts for their brilliant orange flash that will soon lose a little color on the grill.
