OK , If there was nothing better to do.... and you had to catch lakers... what would be your best rig....don't judge me either! I know there are some really good fisherman that read these threads, heading to Canada and need some input. thanks

For Canada it would depend on the depth. I've caught them with Buzzbombs deep, Sonars in mid-depths, and jigs down to 50 feet or so. The best (almost only) color is white, a big white twister tail is good and a minnow doesn't hurt either. We were jigging for them a month ago in 100'+ on Lake Superior with 3 oz. jigs, tails, and brined sucker belly and did real good. I plan to try it on Lake Michigan soon, although I don't plan on keeping them from there. The Canadian and Lake Superior lake trout are much better eating.
Where are you heading to in Canada?

I fish Superior a lot, usually looking for that trophy Laker for the wall.
We use DownRiggers: 1 - use a zip tie or make a leader out of fluorocarbon line to connect your down rigger (DR) ball....so if you get hung up you hopefully only lose the ball. 2 - Keep the ball on the bottom as much as possible. We often times will hold the rod in our hands and work the DR up and down to keep it on the bottom. 3 - Often times use Magnum Spoons....have had luck with several styles....57 Chevy/lucky 13 (Orange on Yellow)...have been known to be ok or try a spin and glow behind a flasher....again keeping it on the bottom...lots of colors to play with. I like a Chrome ladderback flasher.
Best of luck!
