All of these articles out there and no one ever mentions the fact that more lake trout are being stocked in the lake than Chinooks. Don't let the DNR tell you that lake trout prefer gobies and smelt. All those lake trout decimate the alewives that are out there, they live longer than 4 years, and not many people target them.
I still ride on the belief that there is a lot more life out there than the DNRs are telling us. We go thru this doom and gloom debate every year, and every year fishing season comes around and we are just fine. So for now, fish on!

The ones we caught had over twice the amount of alewives as the salmon did. Stock more bows! And by all means "fish on"

Lake trout take a large share of the alewives. Remember, it is the Feds who are driving the laker stocking, not the DNR. The DNR could not reduce laker stocking when they reduced salmon stocking. The Feds would prefer the lake was back to its original state which of course is impossible with all the invasives now present. I sure would love to see the Perch back to the numbers they were at prior to 1995.
