Curious what you all think is the best reel for running copper. I bought my first copper setup last year. Put the copper on a Daiwa LCX-47 reel and had to expand the pawl slightly wider in order to get the knot between the leader and the copper line to pass through without an issue.
Can a guy buy and install a wider pawl for use with copper? Or is there just a better reel to buy right off the bat?

I like running a Penn 2 speed 80W for my 1500' copper setup. The 45's and 55's work nice for shorter stuff like 3-500 feet.

What amount of copper are you running on the Convector 45's? How about the 55's?

I run up to 250 on the 45's and up to 450 on the 55. other may be slightly more or less!
And yes SteveO, I am setting up a 1500, and you are going to reel it in!!! ( We will keep you well hydrated in the process!)

I have my 300' coppers on Diawa Saltists in the 57's. I was using Convector 55's but like the faster retrieve speed on the Diawa's. My Convectors now sit on a shelf but if Tuna Tom still did the gear change to make them faster I'd gladly put them back in service.

I run mine on the Shimano Takota. Fast retrieve, very smooth and great drag. Would love to run them for all my reels but the price tag prevents that.
