I'd be interested to know how many of these fish get caught at these ports vs on the lake front

I bet most of them end up in the bellies of walleyes before they make it anywhere close. All those token trout should be stocked along Algoma and Kewaunee and leave the bay as the walleye factory it is.

Bet the members of the Marinette Menominee GLSFC disagree with you. The bay used to be a trout factory, an if I'm not mistaken those are the more shore related slightly warmer water bows.

Our tributary fishing for the bay is a laughable at best. Most of these fish are going to be bait, and the ones that survive will not be returning unless they are held up for imprinting. Our bay needs to be heavily stocked with trout, our bay can withstand the predation. But, what do I know? I have only watched a once great fishery go down to the, why the heck should I bother when I can fish the lake streams. We need lots of steelhead in the system incase our salmon fishery takes a nose dive due to a bad year class on the Michigan side. Just my 2 cents, and thanks ChampionShip for getting me started.
If you told me 5% of the fish would return, I would call B.S. And lets have more restrictions on the over populated walleye in the bay.
p.s. Steelhead are primarily insectivorous for the majority of their life so why don't we triple the stocking? Oops now I will hear it from the perch-aholics.

I live in Marinette and grew up in Peshtigo. I had my boat moored in Menominee for the last 10 so I can attest to what people are talking about. Growing up we had an outstanding Brown Trout fishery with 10 to 15 fish days common with small boats and minimal gear. Then came the walleyeheads and the sparkle boats and a push to stock walleyes by the millions. The M&M GLSF were actually responsible for some of this stocking as the President of the club at the time was pushing for walleyes and actually helped with one of the big walleye tournaments. The club raised walleyes for stocking for a couple of years during the 90's and actually had to change its mission statement to do this as it was founded on trout and salmon only. Well after the walleyes were planted and started re-producing at the augmented levels the rivers and every rocky reef are full of them in the spring producing more. Then the DNR comes along in April and May and dumps fingerling trout and salmon under the noses of these spawning and post spawn walleyes which the DNR estimates to be in the tens of thousands in each river. So the rest is history and the trout and salmon are dead and our trout and salmon stamp money is spent for mudchicken food. So now I'm moving the boat to the lake and I agree they should move all trout and salmon stocking to the lake as the people here wanted the walleyes and now they have them and the M&M GLSF has no one to blame but themselves as they helped create the situation that now exsists.

I think we at least 3 disclaimers short!!!
I say eat more walleye and stock more steelhead. I no longer fish the tribs for steelhead but did 30 years ago and the steelhead returns today are a pittance.
oh yeah and get rid of the Arlee and Kamloops strains and stock more Chambers and skamanias.

Scrapper did I see you mention "Perch"? Just the fact that the only problem with perch is commercial netting, and nothing else. (Sarcasm)
