Just wondering how many of you have worked or are working second jobs? Any dad's out there that have done that with raising little ones?
Its crossed my mind to give it a shot for awhile since I've been getting laid off a lot this quarter. I could really use the extra cash, especially when the transmission in my car decided to explode.

I worked 2 jobs for years. Sometimes it was hard to give up the time for hunting or fishing, but bills have to be paid. I will say when I was able to go, I think it felt more special.

Doing 60 -70 hrs a week doesn't leave much time for a second job - I did for a lot of years also " donate " plasma at bio life , twice a week for about a hour--- $ 240 a month extra and sit there and read during your visit

I love my second job (if you can call it that)! My first job gets in the way a lot though

Second jobs are something a lot of people have to do...but one thing I noticed is that if one looks at their check for the second job and the taxes taken out because you work hard, one realizes tax payers certainly sacrifice and pay a lot to the governments. Property taxes on my business are now greater than the principle and interest payments to buy the place new.

I worked a 2nd job for many years as well when I was younger. It's helped out a lot back then. Having said that, I'm glad I don't have to do it any more.

Being self employed I don't have time for a second job, nor the energy. When I was first getting my business going I worked a lot of hours and did a lot of work after business hours. I guess working 80-100 hour weeks on average counts as a second job. Thankfully I no longer need to work that many hours but that's only because I did it long enough to put myself in the position I'm now in.
If you need the money and can do it without sacrificing your family time, it's a great way to make your life better for the long haul. Hard work and smart financial management are the keys to having lots of fishing time later in life. The fish will always be there but your family won't, so make the right choice for your situation.

I looked around and felt like a milk cow. Everyone hooked up with pumps going. Seemed to get sick easier than normal afterwards also.

Make your second job a cash job. Help a buddy with a tree cutting business. Mow yards. Landscapers pay pretty well for those who will work hard. Target "above average" income areas in your part of the world. Folks with money typically work A LOT...so they don't have time to take care of stuff around the house, and they really don't care what it costs, they just don't have the time to do it. My sister is a good example: She pays a company $100 per lawn cut. They cut her yard every week whether it needs it or not. I swear to God sometimes they don't even turn on the blades, just make tire tracks in the grass, especially on dry years like this one so far. Does she care? No, and they get paid.
Like mentioned above, avoid a job that is going to deduct taxes, involves a lot of driving, is based primarily off of tips, etc. etc. PITA....and in the end it won't be worth your time or effort for what little you do make.
Does your current employer offer accelerated employee training (i.e. management track) or education reimbursement??
