Going up this Wed. to run baits with my guide. Have a permit for Zone B. He is out of St. Germain which is very close to my old stomping grounds. My parents had a place on Big Arbor Vitae for years. I fished a bunch of lakes in that area .Be interesting to see how things look now as I haven't been up there in years. This is a photo from one bait. Would love a crack at him.

bear...bait it -shoot it and eat it... beef --feed it - slaughter it and eat it....not much difference except bear meat is sweeter...never hunted bear but I've hunted other stuff and the thrill of the hunt is much like a screaming reel... each to his own....JP

Never have understood bear hunting at all. Bait them in and shoot them, F###ing lame. If you think it's so easy you're showing an incredible level of ignorance. Your statement could also be applied to salmon fishing: Bait them in, hook them, reel them in. F###ing lame.

good luck! Not only is it "bait it, shot it eat it"... there are times where that it can "eat" you. Not to mention crawling around the night time woods with them being around! We baited a bear and had him coming in like clock work for a month coming in every other afternoon and the day before season we never got a picture of him again.

Never have understood bear hunting at all. Bait them in and shoot them, F###ing lame. drew my first tag this year after 4 years... starting buying bait 2 years ago at a discount from bear hunters who had filled there tags ... spent alot of time talking farmers into salmon for there permission to hunt there land with salmon i will be the first to tell u flat out bear baiting is far from easy ... especially as a salmon fisherman... running multiple baits in a 30 mile span from may till september. swamps in May-June-July-August are far from easy... then add carrying 10 gallons of peanut butter covered granola every 2 days.... and season isn't open yet (i plan to bump to everyday this week) im kinda pumped and thank you for shareing your trail cam photo ... i know as well as you that before season Corn will ripen... Berrys will prime... and u may not see a thing before the woods floods with Deer and Small game hunters a few days later top of this bait is 36"

Are you hunting in Zone 'C', I just got mine after 10 years. And I agree, baiting bear is very difficult and time consuming. It takes a very understanding wife and family to pull it off. Good luck everyone with a kill tag!!

Good looking bears guys! From a guys who's done it, it ain't as easy as it looks.
I never understood the argument that its not sporting to bait. Is it better to shoot at a running animal and wound it or is it better to actually just kill the animal when you finally do decide to shoot?

A couple of nice bear pictures posted. I hope they keep coming for you guys once the season starts. I've got 2 wow bears and one OMG!! hitting my baits, along with numerous smaller ones, but we'll see what happens in a couple of weeks....
Zone C permits took 3 points with a few at 2 this year (including mine). Zone B took 11 points with some getting tags at 10. I know guys who didn't get a tag at 10 years there. That's a long time to wait for a tag and the reason I switched over to C.
