After reading scrappers post it got me thinking. Fishing and coming up with stuff that works is so satisfying. Got so many choices as far as what to use, were to use it,how to use it. Do I stay shallow,go out deep , go even deeper. Run stuff high, run stuff deep. What to do and how to transfer the success of one pole to another pole or two. When things are going good, just keep doing what your doing. If not your mind is constantly working to figure out what to do and try. I can run 9 lines, but I really like a 6 rod spread. Lots of choices to make, as far as lures, combo's, depth, always with the wheels churning. For me coming in with a nice cooler of fish is great, but the best is you figured, and guessed right to for the day. I've had people out who when they come in think they are the best fisherman out there because they landed some fish. If I have a crew I never reel in a fish, unless there is a double. I generally grap the rod out of the holder and hand it over. I then cut the the motor back so it's just in gear. That way we fight the fish and not the boat being part of the fight. Any fish of any size I pull at least one or two riggers to have the back completely open. Don't get many doubles with that method, but I'm good with that.Net the fish, get them to get the boat back to speed as I set the poles back up. Come in and they think they caught the fish. I look at it,and that's what's so satisfying, is they reeled them in ,but I caught them.My boat is big enough to handle any thing I what fish in. It's not fun for me or crew when it's hard to stand fighting a fish, so why be out there. If I get the chance to fish with someone else I get a big kick out of it. Relaxing, because my mind isn't churning and get to see and learn how other guys go about business. Other thing is unless you have your own boat, there's no way you know what it cost's to keep a boat running out there. I enjoy it out there and I think the biggest reason is just making all the decisions you to make to have success. Long post, but gives you guys something to read, even if it's a little off the wall. Come on K/D.

Well said! I would add the fun of sharing the catch with those that don't or can't fish for salmon.

Thanks guys, keep the reasons coming. I left a lot out ,but there is 100's of them. Another one just being to be physically able to be out there and see the sun come up or go down.

Great post. I think a lot of people, including myself loose sight of the reasons " why we fish". For me, it's getting away for a short while. Hanging out with good friends I don't see that often. The sun rises, and sunsets.

I've been told there are 4 stages of fishing: 1. I want to catch a fish 2. I want to catch a lot of fish 3. I want to catch a big fish 4. I love to watch others catch fish.
Looks like Griff n, Red Rider and I've made it to the 4th stage along with many others who post on this site.

Greybeard, I like to think that I've made it to number 4 on your list. Hope no one thinks less of me if I slip back to no.3 for the week of the K/D.

Just the smile on the people's faces I take out...you couldn't scrape off that smile when they are holding up their fish. that's what it's all about. that's when the pressure is off is when the first one comes over the side and the celebrating begins. the fish don't care who you are, the size or condition of the boat or what your troubles are. just put the lure in front of them and let the fun begin.
