I saw bass being caught with umbrella rigs on tv, and saw some big umbrella rigs for sale in Alabama for gulf of Mexico use.....anyone ever try these for salmon?.... JP

I'd call 'em a six pack for salmon, but you can't put hooks on all the "minnows" three baits per person in WI

I have heard from a few guys who have given them a shot but didn't have much for luck. I could see them working for lakers though, kind of similar to Big Weenie's grease trap.

I'm thinking 4 hookless howies and a hooked middle mistake frog trailing further back.....I ordered 2 frames to give it a try... JP

We tried them in about 2003 or so. At that time, the only versions I could get had a lead weight in the middle, so they were heavy, and very cumbersome to store. They tangled a lot, and wante to spin. Ours had a lot of blowback too...but we did catch a handful of fish on them.
With the Alabama rig being so popular now, there are a lot more versions available to try. IMO, you would be better off with mylar strips on the "non hook" arms and then run a spoon of the same size and color as the mylar about 20" behind the umbrella.
They are used on the East Coast behind leadcore for stripers with great success.
