I got out for my first morning trip of the year yesterday. There was a sloppy swell running from the east and southeast that straightened out later in the day, but it it was still very fishable. We took our first salmon on a wire dipsy set at 1.5 out 150' with a mag PK pink and white spoon in 190'. After an hour without a bite I was checking lines and found a small lake trout dragging on my SWR down 75' that went back. Then we got another nice 3 year old on the same rigger with a Moonshine Hot Lips RV mag spoon in 225'. We kept heading out and got a hit in 270' on the 45# 300' copper that didn't hook up. We turned and headed back inward and took another 3 year old on the same rod with a Silver Streak pink alewife mag spoon in 190'. While that one was coming in a mono dipsy set on 3 out 150' with a blue/white ladder PK caught a rainbow. Our final hit came while I was pulling lines on a 65' rigger in 95' with a purple/black mag PK spoon, another 3 year old. We ended up 6 for 6 plus the bump on the copper, not a bad way to spend the day.
The rainbow had his whole upper jaw pushed down into its mouth. looked like it had a serious hairlip (I'd post a picture if I knew how). Any idea what would cause something like that?

Did it look like it had been caught before and possibly healed up that way? A lot of times that's the case especially if they were caught when they were shakers
First morning trip of the year. .. in October? What have you been doing with your time

I usually fish afternoon/evenings. It's easier for me to stay up late than get up early.

Have seen many of the those over the years. First one saw was on the Root river in Racine. Showed the photo to a fisheries biologist ( the thing looked like a bull dolphin fish ) and he said it happens at the hatchery when the are brooming the raceways to get the fish out. Some of them get damaged. Does not seem to affect there ability to eat and grow.

I think that might have been the fish James tried to bass-master into Tony's boat, it may have come up just a little short. LOL Nice to see that she was still able to eat.
