Our current GPS speed jumps all over the place. Talked to a Lowrance rep this week & said we need a model with a "Dampening filter." Of course this only available on Lowrance's combo units to the tune of $1600. Anyone know of a reasonably priced GPS that has the ability to get a steady GPS speed. Don't need a new depthfinder just the GPS.
I'm older than dirt so was hoping someone younger that is more internet savvy could help me out.
Thanks

Does the unit have a detailed map chip? Try one if it doesn't. It would help if you actually stated what model of Lowrance you have and how old it is.

I have a Garmin combo unit and my GPS speed jumps all over the place too (from 1.5 to about 2.6 when I am trying to keep the speed at the ball 1.9). My old Lowrance X65 fish finder and my Garmin handheld GPS each held a steady speed. Plus they each always read almost the same.

Rep said unit is 6-7 years old & I believe is model LMS 520. He also said Lowrance has only made models for past 1-2 years that have a dampening filter that shows a steady speed. I'm lookin for a GPS unit from Furuno or another manf. that can show a steady speed for a cheaper price. I already know that my current unit can't do that due to old technology. Probably cheaper to just install a Depth Raider or Fish Hawk but looking for options.
