i am currently thinking about investing into a boat better suited for salmon fishing. My dad and i have been fishing lake michigan for a while now and have been fishing out of a 18ft lund. the boat works great, so the problem isnt the boat but rather having to take it up to the lake every time we want to go. we live several hours away and fish anywhere from waukegan to port washington. I was looking for advice on what would be a good boat at a decent price. I was wanting something with were we could leave it in a port and sleep so we dont have the expense of hotels every night. Since i am new when it comes to looking at boats for the lake i was wondering what brands of boats are good for fishing and being able to sleep in.

I am not telling you not to get a big boat, but you may find that hotel bills are cheap compared to sliping and running a large boat. And if you plan on towing it you'll likly need a 1 ton truck.

i noticed a few boats on the site that were around 6800 which both of the boats looks feasible and something that i might be interested in. i would say that the price range is around 10,000. Im just kinda looking around to see if it is something that is possible. The boats on the site were 21 and 22 ft with cuddy cabins and that is more of what i was looking for as apposed to a full blown cabin.

I had a 20 ' cuddy spent the night on it once. If I was going to sleep on it often I wouldn't go any smaller than 24'.

I have a line on a 25' Sea Ray Sundancer cuddy, 5.7 Chev Mercuiser Alpha, mechanic owned that just had $1k in parts put into engine rebuild. Sleeps 4, Simrad AP14 autopilot, on trailer for $5000 in Algoma. PM me and I'll put you in touch with the owner. He upgraded to a 28' twin engine.

Have you considered storing your boat near port? I store mine a mile away from the harbor for $75/month.

Let me know if you will be in the Kewaunee area this next weekend. Hoping to head down Thursday and spend the rest of the week there. I have the 21' MirroCraft for sale and would be more than happy to take you out for a sea test and a some fishing. Todd

greenbay.craigslist.org/boa/3158987168.htmlNot sure your taste, but this is for sale. I would find reasonable storage near the lake, and rent weekend slips. That's what we do, depending on port $25-30/night. You have to fish a lot of weekends to pay the seasonal slip.
