Did any of you Wisconsin guys ever buy a car in Minnesota to bring back to Wisconsin? I found one for my daughter that I might buy and need to know if I have to do anything special to get it titled. Is it just like buying one in Wisconsin where the seller signs over the title and the buyer pays the taxes and transfers it at the DMV? Is there anything I need to be aware of or look out for?

What you said is correct. Have them sign the title over to you (be sure it is signed in the right spot and there is no lein on it) you then bring to WI DMV and pay for registration and pay your tax there.

Things to watch out for: make sure it doesn't have a purple vikings sticker in the window.
It should not really be any different than buying from your own state, sales tax would be paid to WI

agree to the purchase price of 500 bucks or better yet 100 bucks for less taxes. be vary vary carefull with that senario and I speak from Experience. My vehicle got stolen and the ins. company went to the state to see what I paid for it and based there pay out -minus depreciatiion of what I claimed I paid. If you never have a claim, no problem.

The insurance company is responsible for replacing your vehicle with one of like kind and quality in a situation like that. What you allegedly paid for it is of no consequence. Just because you may have received a great deal on it doesn't make it worth any less. That's a battle I would have taken up and enjoyed, but then again I'm not overly fond of insurance companies.

Have you seen the car yet? Want me to take a look before you journey all the way to St Paul?
And if you end up coming this way give me a buzz.

I actually had that happen to me. My wife was rear ended in my 1990 wrangler about 2 years ago and the frame was damaged beyone repair (supposedly) so they totaled it. At that time, with 200,000+ miles on it, it was worth $7000.00 in excellent condition. Since I had just painted it a month before, there wasn't a spot of rust on it anywhere. They tried to give me less due to the age & miles and wanted to know what I paid for it. (I basically got it for free) The agent cringed when they had to hand over a $7000.00 check for something that old. Less than a week later I had a new section of frame welded in and had it back on the road!

Thanks for the offer but I already told the guy I'd take it. My wife and I are running over Saturday morning to pick it up and trailer it home. If he doesn't hold it for me you can go over to his house and have a talk with him though. ;D
