I tried out the trolling bags today. They turned my normally even tempered, mild mannered, auto-pilot into Crazy Ivan on Vodka. It couldn't keep the boat in a straight line with the bags out. Rough or calm, hooked to the front or middle cleat, in the water forward or near the stern, it didn't matter. The auto-pilot kept swinging the boat from side to side as much as 90 degrees. I'm sure glad I didn't have any lines running close together, they would of been tied in knots. I think I'll stick with my trolling plate in the future.
Oh yeah, my wife did a good job reeling in a nice rainbow and then expertly netted a feisty 3 year old for me.
Guess which bag I'd tie to your arm Rod?? ;D ;D

What type of autopilot do you have? You may have to adjust the sensitivity. Where is the autopilot compass mounted? If you can get your bags dialed in, it blows the heck out of troll plates. I have forgot them out too when going to run LOL I use the mids like Champ said, and it really pins the boat down. I use the big ones Big Papa makes. I can run no bags, 1, or both and auto holds. Going into waves it holds better with both bags. Send us pics or tell us how you tried and your autopilot set up and we can try and help.. Kyle www.jennyannsportfishing.com

I have a Simrad AP-14 and the compass is mounted in my forward hatch about 6' from the front of the boat. I tried adjusting the gain from all the way down to all the way up and it didn't get a whole lot better. Normally my AP works great when I troll with the plate down. I do have to run the gain a little higher when trolling into a moderate chop to keep it from swinging back and forth. I did notice with the bags the boat had less roll when I was taking the swells on the beam so it would be nice to be able to use them on rougher days if the AP would work with them.
