My friend Peanut Butter bought a bunch of the Brads Cut Plugs. After running several colors on all presentations I can't seem to get a bite. Any suggestions? Been loading them w/ herring oil I'm assuming we run these at normal speed?

We've always ran them with Tuna in oil and the last time I threw in some minced garlic. This year we didn't catch many fish, but they seemed to be our best bait when we did.

Is the herring oil fresh? Did he have Peanut Butter on his hands when touching the lures? Did he catch fish on other presentations while using the cut plugs?
I can't speak to the use of herring oil but I've been told by friends they used it with Brad's with success. I've used Starkist Roasted Garlic with oil prob 90% of the time in part because I can smell it and when I bring in a lure and can still smell it, back in the water it goes. If I can't smell it I re-load it. The plain tuna in oil worked also but I couldn't smell it as easily esp after a little time in the water.
I've also used ProCure alewife gel, smelt gel and caught fish as well as Mike's Crawfish. Kickin trout has also worked but with the results with tuna hard to change and experiment. Last trip the mini Purple frog behind smoke dodger fired 7 times midday over the course of a couple of hrs and all boxers.
I've also caught fish on Brad's with nothing in them. I load mine the night before and keep them in a cooler. I've had friends pick one out of the cooler that wasn't loaded and I didn't figure that out until unhooking a fish.
I primarily use them on riggers, leadcore and copper. This yr riggers almost always with flasher or dodger and 36" lead and 8-40' off the ball. Last yr lots of luck on SWR when the kings were in less than 50fow. Occasionally run flasher with them on lead/copper but more often naked. Dipsys I've kept the flasher fly program since early season.
I've had enough luck on them that it's hard to figure where/when to put out spoons and Js that I've hammered fish on in the past. The cut plugs are so speed tolerant and move enuf to get bit at very slow speeds when trolling with the current and also higher speeds into the current and that's not the case with most spoons.
Good luck,

Thanks Greybeard-great info. I'll try the tuna next week when I get back out. Ran them on copper. leadcore, riggers, & wire for 6 days of the KD & no luck. Obviously I'm a stubborn old fart so will try your tips & hope for better results.
Thanks again for the info
BTW Was running 1.6-1.8 on the Raider & catching fish on flashers & flies so assumed speed wasn't the issue.

Don't mean to hijack your post but I'm going to. I'm going to pick some of these up so what would be the top 3 or 4 colors to get and what size is working better for you? Thanks in advance.

I agree with Anchorman and would add mini purple frog and mini glow with green dots(aka spotted cow). mini double take working well for bows and cohos with 5 color or shallower along with mini gold perch. Blackjack and seahawk good in low light and bright light recently. ugh...too many choices.

Hey Walker While I know your stubborn, your really not an old fart yet. Your like me, might be growing older but will never grow up, your still just a kid at heart. I took my grandson out to Trivers from last Sunday til yesterday, the fish seemed to be all over the place with no groups anywhere. we did catch some nice bows and one king. I'm sure it will leave a mark on the grandson forever. biggest fish he ever caught. Meyer has been going to Superior and getting lakers and a few coho. walleyes are doing well here on Millelacs. good luck fish'in. Rossco

Your right walker, no dolls on my boat thank God. My grandson is 17 years old so the dolls he's look'in at are the kind that create havoc in a mans fishing life Rossco
