Just curious to see the various answers from people as to how often they do change outs on their boat for unproductive lures......

A lot depends on how much confidence I have in the lure or rig. Example - If it was a good producer on the last trip it earned extra time down in the depths. Plus if you see fish on the graph and know they are around but your not getting hits I'll change out rigs more often.

I checked one hour.. but it would be shorter if I'm marking lots of fish and not getting bit.. some lures I give more time.. others less.. its like anything else.. its a confidence thing I guess

When I was younger and had a driver, I would, after getting everything set, gave any last minute directions to my crew on what to do, have a cup and then start checking lines, changing sometimes. It had nothing to do with confidence in what was down, it had to do with anything that got screwed up and to see if my rigging techniques allowed for a clean release without a tangle or could be holding a shaker or laker, or weed. If nothing else it appeared to your paying customers that you were working. It was allot of work but when you are not catching, I always thought it was my fault so I did everything I could not to get blamed. Often enough something was amiss. Change your leads, stingers and depths. How often do you check your bait eye fishing and on the drop you catch.
Can't do that much with the crews I am blessed with but it is a good practice no the less.
I'm not terrible..I'm just old.

I know some charter captains that don't do alot of changing but they are on the water every day. I think people change to much and get junk on your lines, me for one. Ride your good baits for awhile if you have confidence in them.
