My wife and I will be fishing out of Racine on Saturday afternoon/evening and Sunday morning. We recently (Nov) purchase another boat (used Bay 2655) which does not have riggers yet. I do a lot of trolling for walleye out of our Skeeter 1850 and hate to switch the reels over to leadcore. What are my chances using boards and dipsies only - no riggers or leadcore? Any help with location, dipsy settings and spoon or flies is appreciated from new Lake MI fisher-people.

I fished my first 2 years on the lake with only boards & dipsys, and had no problem catching fish. It is really when the fish go deep that riggers become more valuable. I'm sure some of the southern guys will chime in but the coho & steelhead bite going on is higher in the water column & you should be able to catch some fish just fine. You can add keel weights or the like to your board lines to get them down more as needed. Beware that you will find this sport way too addictive & will be adding a rigger or 2 & leadcore along with lots of other stuff

Last Saturday we were in 40>55 fow. Dypsy out 49.5 and 63 fol. took multiple hits with double O orange dodger/peanut fly on one and a baby chartreuse spin doctor with a 4kflies.com Purple mirage on the other. Same flies on a 2 color board also worked. I would think a 5/8 oz sinker and a 50foot stretch behind the board should get you close to the 2 color depth.
