I was on two toms and they hung together.......one got shot Thurs AM... fair chase....On Friday Am the same vehicle came back and took the bird off the roost....505 Am no gobbles justa bang and a car taking off shortly after...this bird made himself vocal and visible in the AM....too much....
I felt like I was cheated, like my car stolen only to get it back in shambles...still running but damaged and my insurance company says "you got your car back and it runs"
This tom was the center of everything. I was hunting him, not just out to kill a bird, I had a couple close calls, but the deal wasn’t closed, then some "person” takes the bird in a legal method, but not necessarily sporting......I feel like I was cheated….I tried afterwards for the jakes , but it was like fishing in a boat that leaked ,had one rod and two lures
grrrrrr!!!

Sorry to hear but did you see it happen? 5:05 seems a bit late for a bird to still be on the roost the last period. I was out Sunday morning at 4:10 and it was already pretty bright out. The birds flew down about a half hour later, which was within minutes of legal shooting hours. My dad shot one around 6 and my wife had her chance 30 minutes or so later with a tom that came in silent and surprised us. She didn't get the shot off in time after picking up her gun.
I had a good spring but it was bittersweet, shooting a gobbler opening morning of period one around 6 a.m. with my son along (three strutted right in fresh from the roost) and another tom Sunday afternoon with my wife and daughters watching from a few hundred yards away (after pulling a sneak and call combo that I thought would never work so didn't take my wife on it). Shot both birds at about 10 steps. I say bittersweet because more than anything I wanted my 10-year-old to get a shot in her first spring hunt. She had plenty of chances in Learn To Hunt and Youth Hunt, not to mention first period hunt, but didn't pull the trigger for one reason or another (too close, head moving too much, didn't want to hit the body, more than one bird together, and on and on it went. Good for her though as I made her know it was HER hunt and she should shoot only when she wanted to). Lots of stories to tell and we had a great time and saw a pile of wildlife, including more deer than I saw the past three falls combined (they sure can disappear come the fall hunts). Most of us would have shot 10 different gobblers during that span, and at one point she had five jakes within 10 feet! She decided to pass on jakes the first two days and had multiple opportunities. My wife has shot plenty of birds but I did feel her pain at the blown chance Sunday morning. But, seeing my 80-year-old dad's smile twice this spring, the first time in period two with a legit 25-pounder with 1-5/16th spurs, made my season. I had my second biggest bird ever, 24-1/2, but was more than happy to be topped. Ironically I hunted (for myself) only the first day of period one and the last day of period six, my first-ever "bookend" season.

Nope didn't see it happen but I have a good inkling that it did happen, either way, I felt cheated....
But I have a bias that wants me to be number one, perhaps I should be happy for the other person...but I’m not
as long as I realize that, it alleviates some of my frustration....just a little...next year, only one tag...there’s more fishing to be had vs. hunting and more room on the water for camaraderie,
... hunting as a whole seems to be a selfish activity as of late
hence walleyes are better than turkeys
