Things have really started to heat up in recent days, with a number of charters out there seeing 10-20 bites and 7-14 fish mainly working 100-250 FOW from surface to 100+ down. Many bows and lakers up higher (though one guy caught a bow 160 down on a small J) and most salmon 30-130+ down. A couple Kewaunee captains have been experimenting with the "new" 18 and 22 lb. rigger weights and fishing them 150-250 down with some success on "calm and sunny daytime" kings, or so I learned today. I can hardly crank up a 11-pounder (glow keel type) that I experimented with and I can't imagine the electrics it takes to haul up those bad boys, but I'm told a number of captains have ordered up to 5 of the 18s, so must be something to it. I'll stick with fish in the top "150" or so for my 10- to 12-pound weights, though I prefer the top 50 feet! Hope to get out on the water for my first trip sometime soon and will report when it finally happens! Meanwhile, still looking for a couple larger boats for the disabled outing June 25 so if anyone can help, please advise. You'll get a gas card and breakfast/lunch afterward.
