I received an invitation to fish aboard Greg (Pike Preacher's) fish killing rig for a trip out last night (Thursday).......along on the trip was also Owen and Greg's fishing partner Brian.......
After dealing with that horrendous traffic issue on 94 in Racine, which basically closed off the freeway for five hours, I was lucky enough to get routed to the Marina to get the show on the road.....
First time ever fishing out of the Racine Marina, Greg powered us out to about 40 FOW on a basically flat lake where we set up with a 10 line spread (two riggers, two dipsies and six board lines (lead core and mono)......
Greg sure knows his way around his home port, as we weaved in and out of 40-60 FOW, and also finding some warmer water farther north (surface temps ranged from 52 to 58 degrees)......
We ended up going 9 for 14 with eight nice coho and a king......our hottest setup was a wire dipsy with the larger Alderton flodger and a teal/aqua medium length fly with 47 LOC, which produced five hits and four fish.......riggers down 40 feet in 50 FOW also produced when they were jigged....
Some funny moments on the trip as it seemed that I was always standing by a rod that had a drive-by (including two on the orange OO w/Rainbow Richard champagne fly I brought along........Of course as I am fighting a fish on a dipsy, Owen makes jokes about me losing the fish --- and I do (lmao)......some good old fashioned ribbing on board!
Thanks to Greg for hosting an excellent trip, and it was great seeing and fishing with Owen again and meeting Brian.....they say you always learn something new whenever you fish on somebody else's boat ---- Thursday night's trip was no exception! Good job Captain!
Brian reels in one of eight coho we caught on Thursday night
Greg and Brian aboard Pike Preacher
Greg loves playing with his toys on board, especially the Raymarine DS600X fish finder which he pages through screen after screen to learn more and more of its abilities.........he is quite the sponge when it comes to soaking up as much info as he can to aid his fishing! Just dont expect straight driving when he multi-tasks...(lol)
Brian and Owen clean our cohos and one king by the light of our three vehicles as the city of Racine doused the lights at the cleaning station prior to our return from the trip....
