I am going to set up a few trips to fish Lake Michigan here soon, and need some help with fishing knowledge. I am thinking about hitting up Port Washington to fish for salmon (not sure what type yet either) with my dad and buddy. I don’t have a large boat, it’s a 1983 Chris Craft 16.5' bow rider with a 3.8l inboard. I don’t have much for tackle or equipment other than some larger poles and fishing gear (I use it to fish for larger snapping turtle) and running 90# test line with 125# steel leaders.
My questions are Is Port Washington a good spot to fish for salmon? What time of year is a good time to get out (keeping in mind the size of my boat LOL) and how far out? What other gear would be needed for a newbie with limited funds? What type of bait or lures would be preferable?
Thank you in advance for any insight you might be able to give!
