We left the harbor in the dark and saw lots of baitfish a bit south in 100 feet of water from 80 to the bottom. 80 down 62° but later in the morning in 125 feet of water it was 49 down 80. I tried the flasher fly approach with white flashers 80, 90 and 100 down. I ran magnum wire Dipsy's 2.5 set 180loc flasher fly and 220loc fish flash +3 fly teaser and Brad's Happe Meal. 200 Copper mag UV flounder pounder, 250 copper Brad's Blue Jack and silver Fish Flash, 300 copper Brad's Seahawk, three fly teaser and aurora silver Fish Flash, 300 Copper Brad's black jack silver Fish Flash.
Despite bait and lots of hooks down deep no bites first two hours. UGG. Somebody caught a king on a little boy blue fly so I was going to take the Bullfrog fly off the center a rigger. Much to my dismay I found a shaker King dragging dead so during the best part of the morning it probably killed my flashers.
It took a long time to get our first fish and much to my surprise 250 copper took a brown. The next two bites 260 feet out on the magnum Dipsy green flasher Bullfrog fly 2 Lake trout. Dropped the other Dipsey to 260 feet and that took another brown. Quite surprised to get Browns like that. Maddy held up to the 260 wire but declined the next one.
The last two fish came clearing lines. Baby coho 300 Copper Brad's and 3 fly teaser, Fish Flash. 200 copper was dragging a baby brown not much bigger than the magnum flounder pounder. Should have changed baits sooner but waiting for the fish to give us a hint of what they wanted
Remind me to avoid the full moon! Good catches yesterday in the morning but not today. Probably should've started at 10 o'clock and fished later. Comrades didn't have as many bytes as I did except for Regicide who lit them up pretty well until 730 landing 10 fish on his charter. I don't know how the other charters fared but crossed paths with a number of them over the course of the morning. Toyman was the king today in our small boat fleet boxing three nice fish.
More Northwinds in the forecast so black to bluegill and golf. Sad we are running out of time to catch mature fish still silver. Michigan side is killing them.
