I have a 50 foot 30# mono leader attached to a small spro swivel to the spectra line. Attach the release to the mono. When the fleas get bad I add more mono. I use Black's releases and the spectra slips .. the mono doesn't. I know someone that had a burr in a Black's release that kept cutting the spectra line .. he went through a lot of gear before finding the problem.

Thanks for the reply, I'm going to rig up a pole and try it. Thanks, Jason.

We use braided with our downriggers. We attach a small rubber band around braid, then end of rubber band to release (past the pinch point). When fish bites the band snaps. Holds well and I think it wears on braid less.

I have been using 30# Berkley Fireline and on some rods power pro with no mono leader. I have canon releases with no problems except to watch and replace the pads if they seem to start slipping.
