I started where we started on Tuesday but instead of staying on the 80 foot contour headed east. Fishing for us and others was way slower. Had a fish on the mono board on set up on a coho rig then had to wait a while for the second bite. When I heard on the radio others catching a few fish in 100-125fow I was tempted to turn back rather than continue on our plan to go out as far as 200 feet of water but Craig said stick with our plan. Sure glad I did.
Once we got to around 180 feet of water the bite picked up nicely. Much to our delight and surprise the vast majority of fish came on the down riggers. We never went deeper than 205 feet of water and got back in as shallow as 165. There were lulls in the action and then a couple of doubles. Never had a bite on leadcore 2, 3,4,5 or six so exchange some with 150 copper and 175 copper and no bites. Fortunately the mono board 30 feet back took off five times out there and took the last three fish.
Temperature near the harbor 49 and in 200 feet of water 43.5 and 42.5 down 60. Again tried to keep the Depth Raider around 2.2. No appreciable currents today but developed a very thick fog for quite a long time but cleared a bit for our return to Harbor . Glad most boats stayed shallower so we didn't have many to run into. Parking lot was as busy as I can recall on a Friday. Ended up 21 for 26 with two bows, 18 coho and one small king we released. Only started with 2 Purple Frogs but listened to the fish and kept adding more and they all got bit.
If I had fished the way we did a few years ago working the top 25 feet of water for coho it would have been a very slow day. Makes me wonder if we missed a lot of fish back then or if the cleaner water and shrimp have them disbursed more in the water column. Enjoy the weekend.
