A buddy just called me and said he heard that there was some pretty good coho action off Algoma right now. Is there any truth to that or would we have to head to Port to find some?

I don't fish Algoma often but would be very surprised if there is "pretty good" coho action this time of year. I wonder if he was reading reports from one of the Algoma charters, Kinn's Catch. Some of them travel south to Winthrop Harbor to start the season and return home when the Algoma fishing takes off.

That makes sense. My friend heard about it third or fourth hand and I figured somebody got the story wrong along the way. Now if this wind would just quit blowing I could get the new boat out for a shakedown cruise and hopefully find a fish or two.

Weather should calm down a bit this week. The water is getting good at Algoma for some good mixed bag fishing. This week and the holiday weekend will produce some nice catches of kings, bows, and lakers for sure. . But yea, head to Port if you prefer the little cohos that jump in the boat. Wear a blindfold when you go out so it is at least somewhat of a challenge.

One charter out yesterday at Algoma. 1 King, 1 steelhead, 1 laker. I went on a quick shakedown solo run. Lots of bait just outside the harbor, 52 degrees inside, 48 degree water out at 120, and 42 down 100'. No bites on my short run. Lots of current from N to S. There was fish on the graph, just need a little time and rising temps to turn things on.
