I was excited to be able to take out a friend today with two of his grandkids and his son. The forecast looked great and fishing reports likewise plus a chance to run 15 rods. We set up in 140 feet of water south of town along with a bunch of other boats. I was alone down there last time. From the get go radio chatter and cell phone calls sounded like the fish virtually disappeared.
I had 12 rods out when a 2 color with Brad's hot tamale and small big Al red and silver fired. Shortly thereafter the 110 downrigger with Brad's purple frog and white dodger in 175 feet of water. As luck would have it we missed on the next three bites. We decided to turn North at that depth and see if we could find a few more bytes. It was very slow and most bites came going north. Other boats we're still struggling but some found small pods of fish that they capitalized on. We were within eyesight of two boats who did very well after 9 AM. Unfortunately our bites stopped with our last miss at 0950. Fished till noon without a new sniff and seas were building and so headed home.
Surface temperature when we left the harbor was 52.5. In the 175 feet of water it was 42.5 and 39.5 down 60 feet. I did mark a couple of pods of baitfish in the top 30 feet of water and the last two trips I didn't see any. The only hooks I saw were on the bottom.
Too many rods out that did nothing so will list those that worked.
